When did the society perceive that Jesus could be commodified, traded and/or sold in the market place....Church attendance varies from place to place, denomination to denomination people church hop shopping for the "real" deal, yet since Martin Luther's time, schisms have engrossed all who quantify Jesus Christ of Nazareth is the messiah.

Looking for the illusive utopia that leads to the kingdom of God and provides eternal bliss, is simply just not enough to pacify the casual Christian looking for some authenticity. So how does cultural capital marry popular culture? market it. Christ may have used Peter (his rock) to build his church, but Paul's marketing school brought people in droves to subscribe to the Christian movement. Hundreds of years later tactics have varied, but the business model at its core mimics the basic essentials, alters, crosses, and preaching what people want to hear.
